Peru Statutory legal interest (tasa de interés legal)

Peru Statutory legal interest (tasa de interés legal): no single figure applies. The reason is set out below, cited to the governing instrument. Last checked against the official source on 10 Aug 2026.

Peru's legal interest is a daily-published central-bank series, not a fixed rate: the BCRP sets it equal to the TIPMN deposit-average (Civil Code art. 1244, Circular 0018-2019-BCRP), applied through accumulated daily factors.

What this value means

REFUSAL AS A STORED VALUE, because the rate is a DAILY series applied through accumulated factors: the tasa de interés legal efectiva equals the TIPMN (weighted average deposit rate in national currency; TIPMEX for foreign currency), computed daily — around 1.94% (MN) and 1.15% (ME) in early August 2026, but any stored value is stale within days, and computations MUST use ratios of the accumulated factor (MN factor ~8.859 since 16 September 1992), not rate × days. It applies as default interest whenever interest is payable without an agreed rate (CC arts. 1245-1246); a separate tasa de interés legal LABORAL exists for labour debts. SANITY-CHECK TRAP: it is a deposit-average, far BELOW the policy rate (4.25%) — checks expecting policy-like values will misfire. Retrieval: www.bcrp.gob.pe 403s fetchers; the SBS page and the BCRP circular PDF are the reachable primary endpoints. If a daily-refresh mechanism is built later, this can be promoted to a served series.
