What this value means

WHICH RATE IS SERVED, AND WHY: Ley 18.010 art. 16 makes a debtor in mora owe interés corriente absent agreement, and art. 19 makes interés corriente THE rate wherever any law says 'interés legal'. The CMF's monthly certificate itself DESIGNATES which of its many segments answers that question: the rate for non-indexed peso operations under 90 days above 5,000 UF, marked 'Esta tasa rige para los efectos del artículo 16' — 5.40% annual in Certificado 07/2026. The parallel designated rate for INDEXED (reajustable) operations is segment 3.a: 4.40% annual. Serving any other segment (e.g. the 32.04% small-amount consumer rate) as Chile's legal interest is wrong — those segments price consumer credit, not statutory mora. STRUCTURE: the CMF certifies interés corriente monthly (weighted averages of bank rates for the prior month) across segments — non-indexed peso by term and UF size (35.32% / 5.40% under 90 days; 32.04% / 29.52% / 20.46% / 6.74% at 90 days or more by size, with a combined ≤200 UF rate of 30.89%), indexed peso (4.40% / 4.26% / 3.95%), and foreign currency (9.94% / 5.72%). The interés máximo convencional (usury ceiling) for each segment is one and a half times its corriente (art. 6º bis) — e.g. 8.10% = 1.5 × 5.40%. Non-indexed peso rates are linear annual; the rest compound; all vencido on a 360-day base. PERIOD BASIS: each certificate takes effect ON PUBLICATION in the Diario Oficial (mid-month, typically the 13th-15th) and runs until the day before the next publication — an INTRA-MONTH boundary, not a calendar month. Certificado 07/2026 governs 15 July until the August certificate publishes (~mid-August 2026). Re-verify monthly. RETRIEVAL, ESTABLISHED 2026-08-10: every cmfchile.cl host (www, tasas, api) is unreachable from outside Chile — connection failures from two networks and a real browser alike. The reachable primaries are the DIARIO OFICIAL PDF (this citation — signed, sealed, text-extractable; editions at diariooficial.interior.gob.cl/edicionelectronica/, certificate under MINISTERIO DE HACIENDA / Comisión para el Mercado Financiero in the mid-month edition) and LeyChile (bcn.cl), which republishes certificates with a few weeks' indexing lag. Pull the new certificate from the Diario Oficial each mid-month.
