What this value means

MAJOR CHANGE THIS YEAR — the count went from 10 to 14. The four additions (18 ene, 2 feb, 21 feb, 8 nov) took effect on publication, 20 Jan 2026 — so 18 January 2026 itself fell two days BEFORE the law was in force and was not yet a statutory feriado; the schedule above is the position for the remainder of 2026 and for full years from 2027. 30 de Mayo (Día de la Madre) was added earlier by Ley N.º 1118 (2022). TRAP: the consolidated Código del Trabajo published on legislacion.asamblea.gob.ni is the UNAMENDED 1996 text — it still lists only ten feriados and omits both 30 May and the 2026 additions. Do not source this series from that page; source it from the Gaceta issue. Additional entitlements NOT counted above: Art. 67 gives paid 'asueto' on 1 and 10 August in the city of Managua (Santo Domingo de Guzmán festivities) and, elsewhere, the main day of the locality's principal festivity per custom; the Presidencia retains power under Art. 66 to decree further asuetos nationally or municipally. Art. 68: a feriado falling on the séptimo día is compensated, and anyone who works it is paid as extraordinary time (100% surcharge). 2026 weekday check: 18 ene falls on a Sunday, 21 feb on a Saturday, 30 may on a Saturday, 19 jul on a Sunday, 8 nov on a Sunday. 2027 EXTENSION (2026-07-30): the 14 feriados nacionales of Codigo de Trabajo art. 66 as expanded by Ley 1272 of 18 January 2026, which took the list from ten to fourteen by adding 18 January, 2 February, 21 February and 8 November (Ley 1118 of 2022 had earlier added 30 May). 19 July is inside the art. 66 enumeration and is therefore a full statutory feriado for public and private workers alike, not an annual asueto. Nicaragua has NO Monday-transfer rule; art. 68 instead provides that a feriado coinciding with the worker's seventh day is COMPENSATED, which is a per-worker payroll determination rather than a calendar shift, so no substitute dates are generated - relevant in 2027 for 21 February and 30 May, both Sundays. NOT INCLUDED: the Managua-only Santo Domingo days (art. 67) and the public-sector asuetos and bridges that require an annual instrument (20 July, 2 November, 7 December and the September and December bridges), none of which is decreed for 2027.
