What this value means

Headline rate 30% on chargeable profits above TT$1,000,000; the first TT$1,000,000 of chargeable profits is taxed at 25%, so companies with chargeable profits at or below TT$1m face an effective 25%. This two-tier structure was introduced by Act No. 10 of 2016 with effect from year of income 2017; before that a single 25% rate applied. SPECIAL RATES in the same Schedule: long-term insurance business 15% (para 2), and 35% for companies engaged in LNG liquefaction, petrochemical manufacture, natural gas processing and separation of liquids, gas transmission and distribution, and wholesale marketing and distribution of petroleum products (para 3). Companies licensed to carry on banking business are also taxed at 35%, imposed by the Finance Act No. 15 of 2017 with effect from 1 January 2018 — that amendment is NOT reflected in the Legal Affairs consolidation cited here, which is marked 'UNOFFICIAL VERSION, UPDATED TO 31ST DECEMBER 2016'; treat the 35% banking rate as reported rather than as verified statutory text until a later consolidation or the Finance Act 2017 itself is read. Upstream petroleum operations are outside this Act entirely (Petroleum Taxes Act, petroleum profits tax and supplemental petroleum tax). Newly listed SME companies on the TTSE pay 10% for the first five years (s. 3(2)). Separate levies sit alongside corporation tax and do not change this rate: business levy, green fund levy, and — new from 1 January 2026 under the Finance Act 2025 — a 0.25% commercial asset levy on commercial banks and insurance companies, a landlord business surcharge on rental income (2.5% up to TT$20,000 per quarter, 3.5% above), a TT$0.05/kWh electricity surcharge on commercial and industrial customers, and a 5% single-use plastics tax on CIF value at importation. The Finance Act 2025 did NOT change the corporation tax rate.
