What this value means
Read directly from the gazetted Order (S.I. 2026 No. 43), not from press reports. FIRST SCHEDULE (national minimum wage), verbatim: BBD 428.40 per week for a 40-hour work-week; BBD 85.68 per day for an 8-hour workday where the employee is not employed on a weekly basis; BBD 10.71 per hour where the employee is not employed on a weekly or daily basis. Minimum overtime: time-and-a-half on ordinary working days, double on public holidays. SECOND SCHEDULE (sectoral minimum wage for security guards): BBD 11.66 per hour — the only sector with its own rate; it does not alter security guards' normal working hours. Paragraph 4 revokes the Minimum Wage (National and Sectoral Minimum Wage) Order, 2025 (S.I. 2025 No. 55); paragraph 5 sets commencement at 21 January 2026. This 2026 uprating is a ~2% indexation increase (10.50 -> 10.71 national; 11.43 -> 11.66 security guards) announced in December 2025 and is the SECOND increase in eight months — the wage had only just been raised from 8.50 to 10.50 on 1 June 2025, so any source still quoting 8.50 or 10.50 is out of date. Access note: labour.gov.bb hosts Minimum Wage Order PDFs but its published copies lag (the December 2025 'No. 2 Order 2025' link 404s); the Parliament gazette PDF is the reliable primary source, and its text layer extracts cleanly. Next revision expected via a further Order — the Minimum Wage Board/Minister has moved roughly annually since 2021.
