What this value means
SERVED MONTH IS MAY 2026 (5.5%), the newest point-to-point figure that appears in an official document I could actually read. DO NOT SERVE AS FACT: press reports of 15 July 2026 (Jamaica Observer, Mayberry Investments) attribute to STATIN a JUNE 2026 point-to-point rate of 6.7 per cent — up from 5.5 per cent in May, the first breach of BOJ's 4-6 per cent target range since February 2024 and reportedly a 29-month high — alongside a +0.8 per cent month-on-month CPI move driven by a 4.3 per cent rise in Transport after route-taxi and hackney-carriage fares rose 8.0 per cent effective 2 June 2026, +0.7 per cent in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages and +0.5 per cent in Housing/Water/Electricity/Gas. STATIN's press-release index does list a June 2026 CPI release and its preview line confirms the +0.8 per cent monthly move, but the 6.7 per cent point-to-point figure itself could not be read from any STATIN document — see access problem below. Promote 6.7% (effective_from 2026-06-01) to current only once it is read off a STATIN release or a BOJ publication. ACCESS PROBLEM: statinja.gov.jm serves its CPI data tables through ASP.NET __doPostBack TreeView navigation with no stable URLs (e.g. the point-to-point table is only reachable as postback target 'Consumer Price Index, Base Period = 2019\289'), and candidate direct URLs such as /Trade-Econ Statistics/CPI/PointtoPoint.aspx and /InflationRates.aspx return HTTP 404; the press-release listing page (https://statinja.gov.jm/PressReleases.aspx?field1=cpi) shows only truncated preview snippets. BOJ's own inflation page (https://boj.org.jm/statistics/real-sector/inflation/) publishes the series as downloadable Excel only, with no figures in the HTML. The reliable readable channel for Jamaican headline inflation is therefore the BOJ Monetary Policy Press Release, which quotes STATIN's latest point-to-point outturn each cycle — next one due with the 19 August 2026 decision, which should confirm the June and July 2026 figures. UPDATE (roll applied 2026-08-21): SERVED MONTH IS NOW JULY 2026 (7.5%). The August 2026 BOJ release officially confirms the June 2026 figure of 6.7% that was previously only press-reported, closing the earlier DO-NOT-SERVE caveat; the July rise mainly reflects the second phase of route-taxi/hackney-carriage fare increases and pass-through of higher commodity prices to electricity rates. Next BOJ policy decision announcement is 28 September 2026, which should quote the August (and possibly September) 2026 outturns. The STATIN access problem persists unchanged: statinja.gov.jm still serves CPI tables only via ASP.NET __doPostBack navigation with no stable URLs, so the BOJ MPC press release remains the reliable readable channel.
