The 10 statutory national holidays. Legal basis: Lei nº 662/1949 (Jan 1, May 1, Sep 7, Nov 15, Dec 25); Lei nº 6.802/1980 (Oct 12, Nossa Senhora Aparecida); Lei nº 9.093/1995 (Good Friday as a national religious holiday, movable); Lei nº 10.607/2002 (Tiradentes Apr 21 and Finados Nov 2); Lei nº 14.759/2023 (Consciência Negra Nov 20, national since 2024). NOT included because they are federal 'pontos facultativos' (optional), not statutory national holidays: Carnaval (Mon 16 and Tue 17 Feb 2026), Quarta-feira de Cinzas / Ash Wednesday (Feb 18, until 2pm), and Corpus Christi (Thu 4 Jun 2026). Cross-check: the Banco Central publishes a longer list of national bank holidays (feriados bancários) that DOES include Carnaval Mon/Tue, Good Friday and Corpus Christi. Nov 15 (Proclamação da República) falls on a Sunday in 2026; Brazilian federal rules do not shift it. State and municipal holidays (e.g. dates of foundation, local saints) are additional and not covered here. 2027 EXTENSION (2026-07-30): the 10 statutory feriados nacionais (Lei 662/1949 as replaced by Lei 10.607/2002, plus Lei 6.802/1980 for Nossa Senhora Aparecida and Lei 14.759 of 21 December 2023 for Consciencia Negra, which is in force with no sunset and falls on Saturday 20 November 2027). Brazil has NO transfer or bridging rule, so every date is observed where it falls. NOT INCLUDED, because they are not statutory national holidays: Carnival (8-9 February 2027), Ash Wednesday and Corpus Christi (27 May 2027) are pontos facultativos - discretionary non-working days for the federal administration fixed each year by an MGI portaria (the 2026 instrument was Portaria MGI 11.460 of 29 December 2025) - and the 2027 portaria had not been issued as at 30 July 2026, so neither those days nor any bridge days it may add are served. Note on Good Friday: it is listed as a national holiday by the federal executive and universally observed, but its statutory home is Lei 9.093/1995 art. 2, which treats it as a municipally-declared religious holiday; a strict federal-law-only reading would give 9 days rather than 10.
