Headline consumer price inflation, the twelve-month percent change in the All Items Georgetown Consumer Price Index (base December 2009 = 100), compiled and published monthly by the Bureau of Statistics, Guyana. Georgetown is the official national headline CPI; the Bureau separately publishes an All Urban CPI at lower frequency.

The Bureau's own text: 'Over the past 12 months, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 4.0%, largely driven by significant price increases in various categories: Miscellaneous Goods & Services (6.9%), Food (5.3%), Transport & Communication (4.0%), Medical Care & Health Services (1.8%), Clothing (1.6%), Housing (1.1%), Furniture (0.7%), Education, Recreation & Cultural Services (0.4%) and Footwear & Repairs (0.2%).' The June monthly move was led by Personal Care Services (+10.3 per cent) inside Miscellaneous Goods & Services, and by Vegetables & Vegetable Products (+6.8 per cent) and Fruits (+3.0 per cent) inside Food; Operation/Personal Transport (+1.7 per cent) and Fuel & Power (+1.3 per cent) rose on gasoline, domestic gas and kerosene prices. VOLATILITY WARNING: this series is dominated by a heavily weighted Food basket and swings hard month to month — year-on-year readings in the first half of 2026 ran 3.5, 2.9, 2.7, 3.4, 5.0, 4.0 per cent, and the month-on-month prints included -0.6 (Feb), -0.1 (Mar) and +2.4 (May). Do not read a single month as a trend. BASE NOTE: the index base is December 2009 = 100, not 2015 or 2020; a rebasing would break the level series. NAMING TRAP: the release title is 'Consumer Price Index, Georgetown, Guyana' — it is a Georgetown-basket index used as the national headline, and it is NOT the same series as the Bureau's 'All Urban Consumer Price Index' (latest edition January-March 2026), which is published far less often and on a different basket. Third-party trackers occasionally mix the two. ACCESS NOTE: statisticsguyana.gov.gy returns HTTP 403 to plain automated fetches (including this repo's default fetcher) but serves normally with a browser User-Agent; page URLs follow the stable pattern /subjects/price-indices/consumer-price-index-georgetown-guyana-<month>-<year>/ and the release carries both the narrative and a full sectional table in HTML, so no PDF parsing is needed. Releases have been landing roughly two to three weeks after month end; expect the July 2026 CPI in the first half of August 2026.
